Celebrating Lando Norris becoming World Champion feels like the perfect moment to share one of my favourite images from last year at Spa-Francorchamps โ a day when the world was nothing but rain, engines, and raw speed.
I was standing along the straight just after the start line, where the cars rocket past with that mix of mechanical force and almost biological reflex โ the kind of speed you donโt just see, but feel. It was pouring, the kind of Belgian rain that sneaks into every opening, so I was very thankful Iโd invested in a proper rain cover for my gear. My setup that day was the Canon 7D Mark II paired with the Sigma 100โ400mm, shooting with a slightly slower shutter speed and tracking each car to capture that sense of motion instead of freezing it lifeless. A technique thatโs easy to missโฆ but so rewarding when it works.
The physics behind it is simple but beautiful: by allowing motion blur perpendicular to your tracking direction, the sensor records velocity itself โ almost like drawing with light and momentum. And that felt fitting for Spa, a place where nature, danger, and engineering always seem to collide.
And because Max Verstappen came back with such strength in the second half of the season, Iโve added a shot of him as well โ also taken in the rain. Two champions in their own way, two stories in one storm.

I qualified P15, started from the pitlanes to avoid race start craziness and I finished the race P12.
Maybe it was the group of people that I raced with or maybe it is the track, but there were far less DNFs and incidents in this race. That's good.
My Safety Rank continues to increase. I'm almost into Silver.

30 Minutes of Spa - Last to First - September 18, 2025
A five minute race at Spa-Francorchamps.
The number 10 car, whose bumper I staring at most of the race, was a right bastard. ๐ What he did at the end of lap 2 and also at the bus stop in lap 3 were meh. His Aston Martin definitely had more straight-line speed than my Lexus.
Still, I started P5 and finished P4 with no spinning out.

Five Minutes of Spa | August 31, 2025
I tried my best to drive safely to increase my safety rating. It meant driving a little slower and also being anxious every time some other car gets close to me -- for human drivers are crazy unpredictable.
I qualified P15 and because of crazy human drivers crashing, spinning out and DNF'ing, I ended the race P15 even while driving slower. Nice.
I am proud that I did not spin out. Late in the race I did brush a wall briefly at La Source because I lost focus and was staring at the timing board. Heh.
