Remembering Tatiana Samoilova, Icon of Soviet Cinema

Tatiana Samoilova was a defining figure in Soviet cinema, celebrated for her emotionally rich performances and timeless beauty. Rising to international fame with her role in the 1957 classic 'The Cranes Are Flying,' Samoilova captivated audiences with her expressive eyes and haunting screen presence, earning the Prix Jury SpΓ©cial at the Cannes Film Festival. Her delicate features and charm often drew comparisons to Audrey Hepburn, but her intense, tragic depth was uniquely hers. Beyond her breakthrough role as Veronika, she delivered a memorable portrayal of Anna Karenina in the 1967 adaptation, further cementing her reputation as a legendary dramatic actress. Despite working primarily within the Soviet film industry, her influence reached global audiences, resonating from Hollywood to Paris. Vintage photographs of Samoilova at the peak of her career showcase a woman whose talent and beauty continue to inspire classic cinema enthusiasts worldwide. Her legacy remains a testament to the emotional power of film and the enduring appeal of artists who transcend cultural and geographic boundaries.

During matching Warsaw Pact & NATO fleet exercises in the South Pacific, a Soviet frigate must deal with a CIA provocation that could lead to all-out war.

As I've seen so much USA! USA! 80s action, it's about time I saw what the other side had to offer.

I always knew Viy (1967) to be one of if not the scariest horror films ever created. I have never seen it at that point but I knew the undeniable fact.

One evening in 2000s I remember getting ready to go to sleep at my grandparents house and I saw a commercial telling me that - hey - Viy is coming to your screens in 10min.

I hurried to my grandma begging her to let me watch it and after a bit of convincing that I will not have nightmares after the film - she allowed me to watch it.

At that time I have already been introduced to Wrong Turn so the scare aspect was not as shiver-inducing as my older relatives have told me, but the magic and the tales of ancestors in this film stayed with me forever.

I do recomment this film to every single person that is interested in #horror, in old-timey special effects, slavic folklore and the queen of Soviet-era #cinema Natalya Varley.

AKS-1 test shoot on polypan-f, with PO3-3 35mm lens

clearly the lens is not working correctly, was focused on infinity but this is the result. non-reflex is not good with this kind of thing.
now watching some russian guys on youtube doing diy repairs on this kind of camera...

botched the developing as well, didn't load the Lomo tank properly, but doesnt matter as this would not be usable anyway
