Being around churches in the US a lot there I am used to using the SBC acronym for the Southern Baptist Convention.

Southern Baptists to meet in Dallas for annual evangelical gathering

Southern Baptists meeting this week in Dallas will be asked to approve resolutions calling for a legal ban on pornography and reversing the U.S. Supreme Court’s approval of same-sex marriage. The proposed resolutions call for laws on gender, marriage and family based on what they say is biblical teaching. They also call for legislators to curtail sports betting and to support policies that promote childbearing. Delegates of the Southern Baptist Convention, the nation’s largest Protestant denomination, also are expected to debate controversies within the organization during their annual meeting Tuesday and Wednesday. For example, there Is a proposed ban on churches with women pastors.

As Southern Baptists gather, death of former SBC publishing exec looms over abuse debate

(RNS) — Lyell was once one of the highest-ranking women in the Southern Baptist Convention, but her life fell apart after she reported alleged abuse by a former SBC seminary professor.

But three years ago, Lyell told Du Mez that she didn't think she could live much longer with the torment the institution was visiting on her with a vicious smear campaign — that her body was giving out.

And she has now died of massive strokes, aged 47.

"Jennifer did what she did for love. She did it to protect other women. She also did it to protect the church that she loved.

That love placed her in directly in the line of fire."
