The kea (Nestor notabilis) is the world’s only alpine parrot—clever, curious, and full of character.

Photographed here mid-call, this juvenile is part of a nationally endangered species found only in New Zealand.

The Kea Conservation Trust estimates fewer than 7,000 individuals remain in the wild. Threats include lead poisoning, predation, habitat loss, and human conflict.
