Inland portions of more northerly counties, such as Hendry, Palm Beach, and Glades, are also largely defined by rural identity thanks to hostile swamps across much of the area. Even the Brighton Reservation and nearby areas north into Highlands and Okeechobee Counties remain rural for similar ecological reasons.

The individual in the videos later identified himself as “Palm Beach Pete,” a local driver who posted a statement on a newly created X account (@not_jeffepstein) explaining that he had been filmed by a passerby without his knowledge and that the viral meme was the result of mistaken identity. In two follow‑up videos on March 19‑20, Pete reiterated that he was “not Jeffrey Epstein” and expressed sympathy for the victims, noting the clear physical differences between his own facial features—such as a more pronounced bottom lip and distinct ear shapes—and those of Epstein.
