My town in southeastern Massachusetts got about 30 inches of snow today with higher drifts. Parts of MA and RI are breaking Blizzard of '78 records. A lot of my back yard was more than twice dog height and the area Broxo is standing in was shoveled 3 times today.

It's not spring yet! The birds will soon be swooping in to gobble up these winterberries (Ilex verticillata) that have hung on through the winter until the time when they are most needed by wildlife. Not long ago one of "our" squirrels was in this shrub gathering a meal.

A happy find, not in the woods, but in the local #Fairhaven #Massachusetts #Walmart, was Phlox divaricata, a native that the big box decided to stock as one of its perennials this season. I bought a couple and planted them under my pine tree.
