Today on Gnome Stew, I’ve got a First Impression up, taking a look at the ashcan edition of Cursebourne, a new modern horror fantasy RPG from Onyx Path. It sounds like we may be getting a crowdfunding campaign for this game in the Fall, but given the Onyx Path’s history with the genre, I wanted to take a look at the ashcan as soon as I could.
I’ve mentioned before that I’ve got a weakness for the modern horror/fantasy and monster-hunting genres, so I thought, just in case you might be interested, I would provide a rundown of some of the games I’ve reviewed that touch on the same topics.
- Part-Time Gods Second Edition
- Liminal
- Monster of the Week: Tome of Mysteries
- Scion: Origin
- Bite Marks
- #iHunt: The RPG
- Kids on Brooms
- ECB: External Containment Bureau
- The Between
- Haunted West
- Hunter: The Reckoning
- Scion Player’s Guide: Saints and Monsters
- Vaesen: Seasons of Mystery
- Demigods
- Apocalypse Keys
- Candela Obscura
Yeah, I made a few judgment calls when curating this list. I stretched “modern” to be from Victorian times until now. I focused on games where you either know about the supernatural, or are supernatural, rather than games where you’re normal humans trying to survive a supernatural world you’re not connected to. I excluded Cthulhu mythos games because they’re a very distinct science-fiction horror vibe.
But I have looked at a lot of games in this genre. It’s one of my happy places. I also didn’t go through this blog for reviews on the topic. Perhaps another day.
If you’re interested in picking up the Soulbourne Ashcan Edition I think I’ll just provide an affiliate link below, so long as you don’t mind contributing to my habit of buying new RPG material. Thank you!
