Sheep, Poo, DX and Michael Fish

Disclaimer: There’s talk of POTA in this, so might not be of interest to anyone, but it was a dire start that turned out to be great and well worth doing I thought. Today, Easter Sunday, was one of those extremely rare occasions where I actually had a day with no other tasks or duties planned. I had a day to myself and was going to make the most of it. Out by the coast early doors with an 11km trail run in the bag by about 9:30am. All I had to do then was pack the radio gear (this would come b...

A friend activated POTA yesterday on 14.064. Some really rude person said to QSY as "this is a #SOTA frequency, LID" all in CW. He had called QSL? 5 times prior. In my opinion, the rude guy was the lid and showed his ignorance of FCC rules and being a considerate operator. Let's not be like that guy

#SOTA summits № 723+724/1000 today: Piz Uter 2906 m (https://sotl.as/summits/HB/GR-147) and Piz Mezzaun Ostgipfel 3000 m (https://sotl.as/summits/HB/GR-378) with HB9GFQ. Weather was a bit challenging today – snowy, windy, and a whiteout on the second summit (which made for an “interesting” descent).

Would be boring if it were always sunny 🙃

Bela vista sobre o Colmeal a subir para #sota - e #wwff também! Finalmente há bom tempo.
A Week in GW/SW & The 'Impossible' Contact(s)

This week has been an exciting one for M(W)1TJM/P. Being at home for Easter, visiting family, has been wonderful - seeing everyone has definitely been the highlight. But between you and me, the summits down here have been pretty great too! It all started with a Tuesday evening activation on GW/SW-019, Mynydd Maen, which boasts its own bench and trig combo. Then, on Wednesday, I managed an early finish at work to squeeze in GW/SW-005, Fan Fawr, and GW/SW-001, Pen y Fan. A jam-packed week, despit...

GM/SS-216: A Quickie After Work

With the clocks going forward here at the end of March, it officially signalled the start of “being able to do more daft stuff after work” season, and with all the other daft possibilities came the thought of trying to nip out after my day’s employment was done to try and get some Central Belt-adjacent SOTA summits. A perfect test case for this would be Dumyat (GM/SS-216), as it’s round about an hour’s drive from Glasgow, and a fairly straightforward ascent from a car park that cuts about half o...

15 years of activations - Hope Mountain GW/NW-062

Today was my 15 year anniversary for SOTA activating. Due to later commitments I popped along to a local summit, Hope Mountain GW/NW-062 Spoke with many regulars over a very relaxed 3 hour activation. Nice pass by the BelugaXL landing at Airbus in Broughton. Icom IC-705 2m FM and SSB vertical on a SlimG 2m SSB horizontal on a SOTABeams SB270 3 element yagi - nice contact into Norwich and some surprising success with regulars in mid Wales who I didn’t expect to hear. 40m and 20m SSB on an E...

I've been wanting a KX2 for a while now. Finally was able to pick one up and it arrived this week. Looking forward to getting it on a summit soon.
