I’m Fiona, a happy UX Designer with 5 years of experience across industries like travel, banking, and retail, places where communication and collaboration are at the core of how things get done. Currently, I’m part of the UX team at Tesco, designing complex enterprise tools, a role that constantly challenges and grows my skills in navigating both systems and people. As an introverted person, I’ve learned that working and connecting with others doesn’t have to look the same for everyone. While communication might come more naturally to some, I’ve found that for me, and many introverts, it’s more about choosing how and when to show up, and saving energy for the moments that matter. Through experience (and a bit of trial and error), I’ve found ways to build genuine connections, without pretending to be someone I’m not.
On my way back home from #SotB2026 I hacked my way into animating between `position-area` values with View Transitions. The VT automatically gets started by a StyleObserver.
Demo + details can be found on my blog: https://brm.us/animate-position-area
It’s not 100% perfect though, as Firefox doesn’t do anything and Chrome has a 1-frame glitch.
I've long been confused by the changing Lighthouse ("Core Web Vital") metrics - and they depreciated Time To Interactive (TTI) just as more and more sites and web apps started loading static sites that got "hydrated" with JS later.
At State of the Browser, @zachleat talked about the Interactivity Dead Zone (IDZ) which is effectively TTI minus Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) and I think it's a useful metric even if Lighthouse isn't measuring it any more.

I was too busy talking to lovely people to take any photos at State of the Browser or at the pub afterwards - an absolute pleasure, and I remain very grateful to be able to enjoy the company of these people who all have so much heart and soul.
So I snapped a selfie on the way home in front of an iconic London Underground logo behind a bench, while changing tube trains.
See you London, until next time - many thanks to @webstandards and all the organisers, notably @dletorey ❤️
