freedom does not promise safety but agency

the reason you really want freedom is that people are much smarter in groups, despite that quote. the real advances come from a mostly cooperating human civilization at increasing scales.

a system that favors taking away agency from the masses risks rolling the die badly and getting a loser in charge.
