The peak of the heat wave over Germany now reached this region, so I decided to do a slow hike without much elevation changes. Luckily, above 900m it was "only" 32°C. Luckily, the relative humidity was just around 35%, so all the sweating at least had an effect.

I went following a tractor trail deeper into the forest (photo 2) which I believed to be a dead end (it's a dead end on OpenStreetmap, and satellite images also showed no visible tracks), but it actually took some turns and opened up to some small grassy trails (photo 3) and I eventually ended up on the official trails again. Not exactly a shortcut, but not much of a detour either.
