Massive Attack Play "Song to the Siren" with Elizabeth Fraser https://consequence.net/2024/06/massive-attack-first-show-five-years-video-setlist/
I have not thought about the song for a long, long time
This week's #StupidAccordionTrick celebrates a regular gig the @creakingplanks had for many years at the now-defunct Wooden Boat Festival. From 1970, it's #TimBuckley's #SongToTheSiren:
From Post Punk page:
Released 39 years ago in September of 1983 (& as the story goes) ... then 4AD label boss & founder, Ivo Watts Russell had suggested that one of their first (& greatest) signings Modern English re-record two of their earliest songs "Sixteen Days" and "Gathering Dust," as a medley. Although Modern English decided not to do this, Ivo assembled a 'super group' made up of members from Cocteau Twins, Colourbox, Cindytalk & of course, Modern English to record the medley. The result - the first ever release, a 12" EP by one of the greatest, most adventurous & inspirational projects thereafter to be famously known as This Mortal Coil, and this EP which also included on it's B Side, the Elizabeth Fraser & Robin Guthrie Official Site rendition of Tim Buckley Music's majestic 'Song To The Siren' (later to become a massive underground hit in it's own right). And so, This Mortal Coil were born courtesy of this amazing union of two epic songs!
