Solomon's Seal (Polygonatum odoratum, Echtes Salomonssiegel) is a valuable component of woodland and forest edge ecosystems. Its tubular flowers attract bees and other pollinators in spring, while its spreading rhizomes help stabilize soil and prevent erosion. As its foliage decomposes, it contributes to humus formation, enriching the forest floor. The plant also offers shelter for insects and small ground-dwelling creatures. A native species in many temperate regions, it supports plant diversity and often indicates undisturbed, healthy woodland environments.
It grows at the entrance of our field, where it helps stabilize a steep slope beneath the road.

Giant Solomon's Seal (Polygonatum biflorum var. commutatum) in the rain.

Solomon's Seal gets its name from the markings on the rhizomes which are said to resemble the ancient seal.

Pollinated by bees but the nectar also attracts hummingbirds when the blooms open.

May I introduce myself? I'm Phymatocerra aterrima, the Solomon's seal #sawfly. My larvae are extreme gourmets: they can eat only leaves of #SolomonsSeal and #LilyOfTheValley. If you kill the habitats of these plants, we can't survive. Therefore, we love the #forests of #VosgesDuNord and our photographer's wild #garden.
It's #fairy: #Polygonatum multiflorum is the fairy tale's key 'Springwurz' that opens all doors - perhaps also the magic viper's cave under the elder tree? #NatureMatchCuts
Mushroom, perhaps a Hymenopellis, nestled in a type of Solomon's Seal plant.
