I wish people from #Codeberg and #Zenodo would collaborate to get the same clever integration features that allow people to preserve #GitHub releases at Zenodo. I bet people from the scientific community would like that. Is it too much to wish some big sciency inftrastructure group would fund this? ;-)

I'm going to archive stuff at Zenodo as I move out of GitHub.

Update - Tip from Ale Abdo: let's use #SoftwareHeritage !

A very interesting exhibition! Using only a few examples, source code is celebrated not as a means to produce, but also as a means to create, and/or convey messages.
Perhaps my favourite panel is the one showcasing #wenyan. There is a specific mention that source code carries a lot of cultural elements and preconceptions, and in itself is biased, i.e., mostly written by white men. So, I'm glad that fundamentally different programming languages are mentioned.

EDIT: I failed to mention the exhibition is available online https://www.sourcecode-exhibition.softwareheritage.org/

📣 Hey, do you know that now #SoftwareHeritage implements SWHEP?

SWHEP: SoftWare Heritage Enhancement Proposals

Please checkout the two accepted first ones:

• Switching from ORC to Parquet for graph exports
• Paving the way for more versatile object storages by turning shards into mosaic

🤔 Still puzzled where are numbers 0002 and 0003. 🙃

The Software Preservation Network (SPN) will be ending their activities in about a year. Thankfully, they will be taking the time to make sure the work done will not be lost.
Over the years, SPN has done great work to advance knowledge and capabilities towards software preservation. 💜
Still, it always comes backs to sustainability.

@lukeshu I hate to bug him, but I admit I'm really curious of @zacchiro's opinion on material like this:
https://github.com/jacklin9/UNIX-SVR3.2-Src

Namely, I notice #SoftwareHeritage has this archived:
https://archive.softwareheritage.org/browse/search/?q=svr3.2++jacklin9&with_visit=true&with_content=true

I am guessing based on that Software Heritage has no resources to make any sort of assessments as to whether or not historical code *is* what it's labeled to be when you archive it?

The « Software Source Code Exhbition », co-curated by Mathilde Fichen from @swheritage, is now on display at Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie, the most prominent science museum in #Paris, France.

It's until March 25th, 2026 and in the free part of the museum, no ticket needed.

If you are around and into software, I recommend visiting it, as it's super super fascinating.

Most of the art pieces art cool, go see them!

I’m still disappointed that they only considered *procedural* code, and desk-rejected *declarative* code. This is a sad editorial misunderstanding of what "source code" is :-(

In the world of high-stakes automotive engineering, road safety is increasingly a software problem.

For Wendi Urribarri, Process and Safety Engineer at Woven by Toyota, the solution lies in the cryptographic DNA of the car’s codebase.

She argues that the SoftWare Hash Identifier (SWHID) could become a critical safety feature: by providing an immutable, verifiable fingerprint for every component in a vehicle’s massive software stack, SWHIDs ensure that the code running on the road is exactly what was vetted in the lab.
