Well, we've managed to find out. π΅οΈ We placed tracking devices into 40 bundles of soft plastic packaging and dropped them at front-of-store collection points at Sainsbury's and Tesco supermarkets across England. π₯ The results of our investigation reveal that 70% of the tracked soft plastic bundles that reached a final destination is burnt, not recycled. π’ The rest ended up at recycling...
"Packaging Forum chief exectuive Rob Langford said soft plastics collections had been introduced at the kerbside in Belgium and Ireland, and would soon be mandatory in the UK after successful trials.
A mandatory plastic packaging product stewardship scheme was underway in New Zealand, which would see the costs move away from the council and ratepayer to the producer and consumer."

I've been experimenting with plarn. Damn it's a bitch to crochet with, it just doesn't glide like yarn and my hand hates me! Maybe if I try spinning it? I've seen a technique that plies it pretty quickly, I just didn't have many plastic bags and I wanted as much yardage to play with as possible. As it was, these two small vessels ate up about 7 bags.
These two things are going to hang on the pegboard in my sewing room.
