Girls to the Front: Clitteband + Snackbar + Hondenfokker

Girls to the Front is an initiative from Utrecht that focuses on the representation of FLINTA in the Dutch punk music industry. It started off as an event in Utrecht, organized by Bibi Fay Bannink (an 18-year-old feminist punk fan with a plan) and grew into a compilation LP with the 14 most prominent punk bands with FLINTA front women, named Girls to the Front.

On International Women’s Day 2026, the second “Girls to the Front” compilation album was released. We are celebrating this once more with three bands in Merleyn: Clitteband, Snackbar and Hondenfokker.

Clitteband:
Fun: fun on stage, fun in the music. Fun in their identity as young, feminist, queer, loud and alternative. With a mix of energetic and creative punk, Clitteband is conquering stages all over the country. Screaming, stomping, throwing punches, pushing back and pushing boundaries: Clitteband draws inspiration from old punk, but is not afraid to innovate.

Snackbar:
In 2026, SNACKBAR cane back from the Amsterdam back alleys to the stage with fresh blood in the line-up and new music. Expect a fatal dose of feminist hard rock with screeching organs, cutting guitar riffs and compelling punk rhythms. In 2024 they released their first EP; a second one is on the way.

Hondenfokker:
Hondenfokker put themselves front and centre. No abstractions or fragmented worlds, but direct confrontation. A punk-driven trio that mixes electronic beats with screeching guitars, pure vocal improvisations and guilty pleasure melodies. Soaked in fun and fashion, these “breeders” find their way to every party.

In verschillende gemeenten openden vannacht al de stembureaus. In Den Haag was er een feest op de Grote Markt, in Arnhem opende burgemeester Ahmed Marcouch de verkiezingsavond met een rap en in Kampen werd gestemd in een snackbar.

Na een dagenlange zoektocht heeft Clint Koemans zijn grote ijshoorn voor de snackbar aan de Fahrenheitstraat in Den Haag weer terug. De eigenaar was plots zijn beeld kwijt en hoopte in eerste instantie op een flauwe studentengrap. Een oplettende medewerker met een filmpje van de reuze-softijs bleek uiteindelijk de gouden tip. 'Ik moest wel even tot tien tellen.'

Nooit meer een balletje pinda, een speciaal belegd broodje mexicano of een hamburger met de beroemde saus. Na vele jaren sluit snackbar De Eethoek in De Lier voor altijd de deuren. Op de allerlaatste dag was het ramvol in de patatzaak en vloeiden de tranen rijkelijk.

Een bekend familiebedrijf in 's-Gravenzande is niet meer. Na zestig jaar is het laatste familielid uit snackbar De Boerenwoning vertrokken. De eigenaresse heeft de zaak over te dragen aan een 'buitenstaander'. Er is geen familielid die met de zaak verder wil.

Snackbar sluit deuren, klein brandje zorgt voor abrupt einde van bijna 45 jaar werk

Een hard gelag voor de eigenaren van snackbar De Vier Wieken in Wateringen. Vlak voor het 45-jarig bestaan van de zaak heeft er in het cafetaria korte tijd brand gewoed. Daar kwam zoveel roet bij vrij, dat bijna alles moest worden weggegooid en het niet meer te doen is om de deuren van de snackbar te openen. 'Eigenlijk stelde het niets voor.'

Weggepeste eigenaar snackbar opent nieuwe zaak: 'Echt een toplocatie'

De 20-jarige Zuhair, die zeven jaar geleden uit Jemen vluchtte, moest zijn snackbar in Duindorp sluiten nadat deze meerdere keren doelwit was van vandalisme en racistische intimidatie. Dankzij een crowdfunding, opgezet door Jasmijn Bul en Katie Varkevisser, kan hij nu opnieuw beginnen. Dit keer met een nieuwe snackbar in de Schilderswijk.
