It’s quite some work to migrate my 17 year old app #SmashTunes to #Swift 6.2, but I’ve started the work.

There are lots of code constructs that don’t work anymore, but I’m slowing picking up some patterns.

In the end I think my app will be more robust and structured. I am forced to think about the architecture again.

I started with over 200 warnings and am now down to 160.

I’ve started working on replacing #rollbar with #sentry for my app #smashtunes. I was getting in some very incidental crashes because of Rollbar. Rollbar should give me insight into potentential crashes not be a cause of them. Maybe it has to do with SmashTunes being a #macOS app and the Rollbar library only being for #iOS. I don’t know, but I’m switching over.

So far Sentry looks promising. Does anyone have good experiences with maybe other tools like these?

When creating software it is always frustrating to deal with other systems that don’t behave the way they used to, so your software is not working as expected. One example is #AppleMusic running on #macOS #Tahoe.

I already fixed the displaying of track info in the menu bar that #smashtunes does so well. I’m in the process of fixing rating of tracks. I just found out that playing back playlists is broken as well.

Making #SmashTunes work is on top of my list. Fighting frustration 💪🏼

I’m working on a fix for #SmashTunes on #macOS #Tahoe. The problem is that #AppleMusic no longer returns track information when streaming music. I don’t exactly know how they broke it, but get information tracks that are played from the library just works.

I guess using #AppleScript APIs is not the most future proof way of doing things, but it has worked for me for 15 years. I found a workaround. Just have to fix #listenbrainz scrobbling.

#Spotify just works. #Qobuz is as closed as a jail.

There are a lot of posts these days about apps being ready for #macOS #Tahoe, so I will join the parade.

#SmashTunes is ready for Tahoe too! We’ll, for the most part… I was not able to test streaming #AppleMusic music. I could not log in to the music app with my #appleid. Undoubtedly it will work, but I did not read any posts on Apple Music being ready for Tahoe.

I did my testing with a virtual machine on #VirtualBuddy which works great. I’m still reading those Tahoe rapports before jumping.

#SmashTunes (https://www.smashbits.nl/smashtunes) now integrates with #volumio, the #Italian music player / platform.

You can see what’s playing on your Volumio in the menu bar of your #mac. And of course you can control playback and, and such. Since Volumio is Italian for volume, you can also control the volume 😀

I basically built this for myself; that’s ok for hobby projects. I use it when I am working in my living room and listen to #Qobuz on my stereo set via Volumio.

I was curious about #macOS #Tahoe and if the UI changes would impact my app #SmashTunes, so I used a restore image to run the new os in a virtual machine using #OrkaDesktop. That works like a charm! So I you want to play around with Tahoe and don’t want to risk your main machine this a great way to do it.

When I had some music playing in #Spotify,SmashTunes crashed in its menu item wizardry. I found a way to do things differently. Bug fixed! It’s nice to be ready for mayor updates like this.

I’ll be probably by the only user that wants to control #Volumio by making use of #SmashTunes, the #macOS app for displaying #Spotify and #AppleMusic. But hey, I’m the author of this software, so why not add this functionality?

Playing around with #websockets now. A basic setup is in place. Nice to work with open hard ware.

I must add that I’m super happy with my #Rivo+ Any other owners out here? Or #Volumio users?
