Time to carve again… First work made out of black cherry plum wood (prunus nigra / Blutpflaume).
Really nice material, lovely colors and comfortable to carve.

Using some Mora knives, Pfeil spoon knives and a Fiskars Norden axe.

Held a heddle carving workshop the other week and since it's a few years since last time I thought it best to make a bunch to see if I liked the same method.
I've mostly made larger ones before but these smaller are also super nice carving.

Two nystpinnar carved out of birch(I guess there's an english word for this textile tool but couldn't find any).
One of them I made for an how to-article in the swedish magazine Hemslöjd and it was so fun so I had to make another one 🙂

Just finished (I say finished, but I think "gave up" is a better phrase) carving my first spoon in about eighteen years. It's lumpy and wonky, and the bowl's a little too deep for a comfy eating spoon, but a little too shallow for a scoop.

Some parts are lovely though.

Room for improvement then. But since the first step to mastery is giving yourself permission to suck, I reckon it's a good start.
