WALKABOUTSVERSE 176 OF 230

Poem 176 of 230:  THROUGH THE NIGHT - AUTUMN 2001 The Moon’s beam drew-out,     White, a passing curly-cloud From the inky sky. (C) D...

Orion sitting just above the southern horizon.
Taken with my approx. 10 year old compact camera, with a 10 second exposure using a mini tripod manually braced against a garden pergola.

WALKABOUTSVERSE 79 OF 230

Poem 79 of 230:  PIE IN THE SKY? From our early childhood,     We’re taught to glorify Conquering the Earth’s neighbourhood -     ...

A very cold, but beautifully clear winter night sky from near the three counties border of Kerry, Limerick and Cork. Orion and its belt on the right, a bright object to the lower left which might be Sirius, if I'm reading my starchart properly, and Jupiter in the top left, blazing a trail as it crosses the night sky.
Not too bad for a phone with which I hardly ever take night time shots, and held in my freezing hands 🥶

@ellenor2000

It's not offensive.

But my knowledge that Terra is in the Solar system does not come from Latin or school.

It comes from a combination of E.E. Smith's 'Lensman' series (where this planet is repeatedly called Terra) and a book titled _Stars and Planets_.

Not page 14 of Patrick Moore's one, 5th edition published by Chancellor Press in 1992. Although Sir Patrick was clearly a #SkyAtNight presenter who *had* seen the 'You Are Here' marker pointing to Terra in the Total Perspective Vortex.

But the 1972 MacDonald Junior Reference book by that title, where at the end of the entry for 'Sun' I as a child unwittingly prepared for the FediVerse in 2026 by writing in the helpful note '(See SOLAR SYSTEM)' that directed me to the right page to photograph.

The price on the back says 55p under the Net book agreement. I think that I just got my parents's money's worth.

@JdeBP
Too right - we wouldn't have had this singular-criteria nonsense from Patrick!
