I was talking about things I used to do in my childhood as a kid, and the one thing that always really stands out is roller skating. It was something I did every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I was even on the speed skating team for several years. And one of the most popular songs in that time that we used to "jam" to was Another One Bites The Dust by Queen.

This was one of those songs that got most everyone out there to skate and we would just have good, fun times. I wish the world were still like that today! Times were just so much simpler and so much better in just about every way possible.

Le Franco-American Skating Rink de Roubaix (59)

Dans les années 1910, la ville de Roubaix vit s’ouvrir le Franco-American Skating Rink. La grande salle fut louée par Jules Vroman, fabricant d’appareils de gymnastique, afin d’y établir une patinoire à roulettes.

Le Skating-Rink de Strasbourg (67)

Début 1877, la Ville de Strasbourg loua un terrain pour une durée de trois ans à messieurs Wettern et Klein, négociants à Cologne. D’une superficie de 1589 mètres carrés, il se situait rue des Bonnes-Gens, près de l’usine à gaz.

Nevière bat le record de la demi-heure en 1914

Le journal Le Petit Provençal se fait l’écho du record de France de la demi-heure en patin à roulettes réalisé par Nevière le 7 mai 1914. Ce coureur du Roller-Skating Club de Marseille réalisa sa performance au Modern Skating, l’une des patinoires à roulettes de la cité phocéenne.

Le Skating Rallye-Cor de Laval (53)

Le Skating Rallye-Cor de Laval (53) fut inauguré le 17 février 1912 à 20h00. Il s’agissait en réalité d’une petite salle de concert attenante à un café qui comprit l’opportunité de proposer une patinoire à roulettes dans une ville qui en était alors cruellement dépourvue.

L’American Skating de Tarbes (65)

La ville de Tarbes (65) se dota d’un skating-rink dans les années 1910. Il vécut une fermeture temporaire avant de disparaître définitivement en 1920.
