Schönen guten Abend zusammen! Wird Zeit für ein kurzes #Neuhier.
Ich habe endgültig genug von Datenkraken, nervigen Abos und der ewigen Cloud-Abhängigkeit. Deshalb verbanne ich Big Tech gerade Stück für Stück aus meinem Alltag. Die ersten Dienste werfe ich lokal über Docker an und ich fuchse mich immer tiefer in Themen wie #DeGoogle, #SelfHosting und #SimpleX rein.
Suche hier nach Gleichgesinnten, die auch lieber selbst hosten statt mieten.

@vegbur telegram does not encrypt dms by default[1], has no option to encrypt group chats[1] is not decentralised[1] and the server code isn't open[1] which means you can't self host it[1] and it gives data willingly to the police

SimpleX is better because it has encryption for dms and small groups, is decentralised and anyone can run a node with the FLOSS server code

I’m trying to figure out how I add groups, specifically groups i have on my mobile app to my terminal. simple x help suggested I add a directory bot but It is still not clear how i can connect to an existing group in the CLI, i’d expect /groups list should return some kind of list but that option doesn’t exist. Any tips appreciated!

@simplex 4 years in and the no-user-ID model still feels radical. The 300-500K active users without a single account ID is exactly how software should work by default. This is the first time I’ve heard of #simplex chat . It sounds a lot like what Threema does. I was asked about it when I suggested using DeltaChat or ArcaneChat.
I’m not too keen on the fact that it seems to have a lot of money (according to Wikipedia, $1.3 million from Jack Dorsey in 2024).

What do you think about it?

C'est la première fois que j'entends parler de SimpleX chat. De ce que j'en lis ça ressemble à ce que propose Threema. On m'a interrogé sur le sujet lorsque j'ai proposé d'utiliser DeltaChat ou ArcaneChat.
Je suis pas hyper rassuré avec le fait qu'ils semblent avoir beaucoup d'argent (Wikipedia parle d'un don de 1.3 million par Jack Dorsey en 2024).
