Book 59: Mortis (Siege of Terra 5)
The book is about the Titans, the giant mech colossi, which defend/attack the final 100 kilometers before reaching the exterior of the imperial palace. Again I really suffered by the endless and disorienting descriptions of the titan war.
I did not like these parts because there is little to say about it. If the authors goal was to make the reader feel the sufferings of the defending titans he did it. I felt uncomfortable enough to almost skip the book. I am no fan of the kind how the titans are described in the entire series. Not at all. Felt so exhausted by this, it took me another book and look back to write this post.
The interesting parts are what is happening besides the titans. Where is Horus, what is the emperor doing and some other side plots. These however could have been merged with other books. This book is just here to fill a spot, not to narrate.

Book 58: Saturnine (Siege of Terra 4)
I'll make it short: a lot of story archs. Some find an end. Some find revenge. Some find hope. Some find disappointment.
It took a bit to become exciting, part 1 did not reveal where this book was going to. Part 2 kicked in and part 3 is an amazing firework how the story collapses in four or five centers of attention.
Dan Abnett shows off how to tie readers to a book, the final chapters I read in one go and sure I wanted to sleep two hours ago...

Horus Heresy, State of reading: 57 The First Wall (Siege of Terra 3)
First book since the siege began, that I consider a bit weaker. One of the story arcs was disconnected from the other plots, and though I really like the pov from regular humans, this one was too far away from the action, and its twist was killing the narration.
I liked the loyalist parts, because it felt desperate, with small glimpses of hope.
The traitor view though was exhausting, because none of the characters really made progress, beside scratching the walls. They hate the loyalists, the emperor and each other, but that's no news. I am sort of disappointed that no traitor is ever reconsidering his/her side, because there is so much criticism towards their leaders, there should be at least one ... 😅

So I've done it. I've finished all 67 volumes (65 books) of The #HorusHeresy and #SiegeofTerra. It's been a 2 year slog since I started. Glad I did it and glad I finished it. Not sure what to do with my time now but probably read some very different #books!
Can't wait to get stuck in the latest Garro tale!
