Why do philosophy of physics when you can do physics itself? | Aeon Essays

Some physicists reject philosophy as a distraction from ‘real’ science but it is in fact both useful and beautiful

Aeon

Tonight's existential crisis is based on the disturbing idea that rotation doesn't seem to work well with the idea of arbitrary frames of reference.

Regardless of the frame of reference, it would seem that we could sense absolute rotation (relative to what--the aether?!) by measuring force required to keep 2 objects at a constant distance apart, then rotating the whole apparatus around one of them at various rates. In principle, we could maximise the apparent attractive force ('gravity') at zero absolute rotation.

Which seems mad in a relativistic model.

My brain itches. #AmateurPhysics another #ShutUpAndCalculate ?
