While hunting through some files for a character sheet I manage to distract myself by opening the PDF of "HeartQuest, Romantic Roleplaying in the Worlds of Shoujo Manga". It's a game I picked up years ago because it uses the Fudge system, but I've never actually played it. If, like me, you aren't especially familiar with shoujo manga then here's what the book says:

'Shoujo is Japanese for “girl”, and “shoujo manga” literally means “comics for girls”.'

If you look at the art credits for the book, it appears that the artists are all women. The writing credits suggest that the writers are all men.

That seems oddly unbalanced to me. No doubt many of the people behind the original manga were men, but no women at all involved in writing a romantic game based on comics for girls?
