Bonnie WattThis is a short comic about my diagnosis of MS (multiple sclerosis) in 2008. It’s taking me a long time to understand how much the condition has had a serious effect on my life. As a person who always struggled to connect with others, the diagnosis and the physical realities of it made it even harder. It’s really difficult for people to know how to react when a loved one get such a diagnosis. We always wanna fix problems and MS doesn’t give you that option really. The diagnosis forced me to give up a lot of my dreams as it’s hard to pursue a career as a creative when you have a chronic condition and no health insurance in the US. So, for a long time, I put my dreams on hold, but eventually it became too hard to not pursue them. So here I am entering my fourth decade, still trying to figure out how to make it as an artist/good human being, but I’m making progress. Comic memoirs definitely help in my healing process.
