1) Another gorgeous day, & not as hot as advertised.
2) Time with spouse to plan our June trip to #Japan. We have never been, but between growing with her best childhood friend’s Japanese family, and my #Aikido addiction, we both have longstanding desire to go.
3) Coincidentally, spouse met a Japanese tourist in the #SFBotanicalGarden last week who initiated a connection. That nice woman owns a vegan cafe in #Shinjuku we plan to visit! (https://yelp.to/RufyfqEUV7)

Child pushed by a passerby in the street in Tokyo: when the phenomenon of butsukari becomes extreme.

Ignore strangers you encounter on the street or on the subway, then proceed straight ahead as if nothing is happening. This is the phenomenon of butsukari, which emerged in Japan almost ten years ago. It’s being discussed again after a video that went viral these days: a woman pushes a child to the ground while she crosses the Shibuya intersection in Tokyo, while her mother is filming her. For years, experts have been studying the possible causes of these deliberate gestures, often linked to urban stress and social dynamics. The topic entered the Japanese public debate in 2018, when a video circulating online showed a man intentionally pushing several women at the Shinjuku station. A 2024 survey of 21,000 people found that 14% of respondents reported being victims of butsukari, 6% reported witnessing an episode, and 5% reported both.
