"A massive, 7.6-magnitude earthquake hit Japan on January 1, leading to warnings of huge tsunami waves hitting the island nation. #Wajima city in Ishikawa prefecture reported waves as high as 1 metre lashing the coast. Japanese media reports said the waves could go as high as 5 metres, or 16.5 feet. The developments brought back memories of the 2011 quake and tsunami which left 18,500 dead or missing in Japan."

#Japan says no abnormalities reported in #NuclearPlants after quakes

"No abnormalities have been reported SO FAR [emphasis mine] after a series of major earthquakes rocked central Japan on Monday, the government said.

"'It has been confirmed that there are no abnormalities at Shika nuclear power plant (in #Ishikawa) and other stations as of now,' government spokesman Yoshimasa #Hayashi said.
