For 30 hours this weekend an estimated 3,000 people are engaged in a Peoples Blockade civil disobedience action of Newcastle coal Port on the east coast of New South Wales, about 100km north of Sydney. Newcastle is the largest coal port by tonnage in the world.

Gregory Andrews, a former high-level Australian diplomat was taken to hospital two weeks after embarking on a hunger strike outside the Australian parliament.

In his petition to the Australian Prime Minister, Andrews calls on the government to stop subsidising fossil fuels, commit to an urgent phase-out of coal and gas exports, end native forest logging, update environment protection laws and release key details of Australia's Climate Risk Assessment.
