Israel & the US have launched a new war against Iran:
- an illegal war of aggression (the war crime causing all other war crimes)
- openly boasting of targeting civilians, national leaders, government officials, scientists
- launched (again) while the US was still (putatively) engaged in peace talks, once more betraying any respect for negotiated outcomes
- launched (once more) without even pretending to give any regard to the UN, the nuclear non-proliferation treaty, or rulings of the #ICJ (or even Trump's #BoredOfPeace scam)
- launched despite eight months of claiming that Iran's nuclear capabilities had been "entirely obliterated" by the June 2025 Israeli-US twelve day war against Iran (also wildly illegal).
You don't need to be any kind of supporter of the brutal Iranian regime to think this is a brazenly criminal and regionally destabilising act, carried out by two authoritarian crime lords, who already slaughtered 500+ Iranian civilians eight months ago and who are still perpetrating an ongoing (albeit slower) genocide in Gaza.
Given all this, why on Earth would #AnthonyAlbanese make his first response be unqualified support for yet another illegal war?
Another demonstration that the Australian government has more #SharedValues with Trump/Netanyahu than with most Australians.

If you are trying to drive societal change in deeply divided America, you need to read this article on how Jonathan Haidt achieved the apparently impossible task of getting firm support in 50 states for phone restrictions in schools: "Go ahead, tell me another issue that has cracked the red-blue divide like Haidt’s crusade against smartphones in The Anxious Generation or name another book that has so quickly led to far-reaching reforms, such as banning phones in schools.... I first realized a remarkable story was sitting in plain view when I witnessed two governors who are almost comically far apart on the political spectrum both embrace Haidt. Last year, Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders sent a copy of Haidt’s book to every other governor. She then hosted Haidt in her home state before joining him earlier this year on stage at Davos, not typically a lovefest forum for Arkansas governors and New York academics. Shortly after that, at the winter meeting at the National Governors Association, I got to talking to New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy and one of his top aides, and they also were trumpeting Haidt’s work. A liberal, former Goldman Sachs executive turned northeastern governor, Murphy, 68, sounded a lot like his 43-year-old conservative counterpart from Little Rock." Jon himself is quoted in the article saying that he has had success because so many of us are parents and see what is happening. That's certainly true, but it downplays the brilliance of HOW he has driven his campaign, and it has lessons for anyone working to address our profound environmental and social challenges. Because Jon also created Moral Foundations theory (read The Righteous Mind, not just the Anxious Generation!), and he knows exactly how to frame arguments that will resonate with the people he is talking to, and that are aligned with their core values. You will see him emphasize some points when he talks to Michelle Obama and others when he talks to Joe Rogan. You will see him meet people where they are, and make points that will resonate with them. I worked for Jon for three years, and I know his success is as much about this conscious strategy as the issue itself. I also know we would have got a lot more done on climate change and a host of other issues if we had applied some of these approaches. This is about understanding what values-based arguments will resonate.
