#Earthquake alert system works!

I got an alert on my phone at 1:41 am that shaking was imminent (from an estimated 4.5-5 magnitude). 15 seconds later I felt some motion and watched the fan pull chains swaying.

Good job #USGS and #ShakeAlert! If you’re in CA or anywhere else on the US Pacific coast, make sure you have shake alert on your phone. :-)

Mild mystery this morning. Earthquake alert in SF for a 5.9 earthquake (big enough to hurt you, but not to knock down your house) sent me scurrying under the dining table. Always good to practice Duck, Cover, Hold On. There I saw it was for a location in Nevada, about the same distance away as Paso Robles or Red Bluff. Bit over-cautious, but OK. Not surprising I didn't feel anything.

But now it's been deleted from the USGS Latest Earthquakes map. ShakeAlert error?
