SETI@home: Their "cutting-edge" alien-hunting #tech is so advanced, it can't even detect a human 🤖. Just a #CAPTCHA away from saving the galaxy! 🚀👾

SETI@home …

Congratulations to the SETI@Home project for successfully completing their analysis.

27 years ago I helped build a decentralized computing platform that was a more general form of what they were doing, but they were always the OG.

Here’s a nice discussion of the results. (Spoiler: nothing world-shaking, but interesting next steps)

Nostalgia tahun 2000an gabung SETI@home.

Sekarang jadinya pengen coba iseng-iseng ikutan boinc.

🚀👽BREAKING: SETI@Home hits 'snooze' button! Instead of hunting aliens, they're now analyzing data... or pretending to. 🛌 Meanwhile, the message boards will stay live for all your intergalactic theories. 🌌 Keep dreaming, Earthlings!

I lost track of how much equipment I used SETI@Home on for burn-in during the #dotcom era. It certainly helped my status on the leader board.

For 21 years, enthusiasts used their home computers to search for ET. UC Berkeley scientists are homing in on 100 signals they found. - Berkeley News

UC Berkeley’s SETI@home, one of the most popular crowd-sourced research projects ever, turned up some 12 billion signals of interest. A lengthy analysis found 100 worth another look.

Enthusiasts used their home computers to search for ET—scientists are homing in on 100 signals they found

For 21 years, between 1999 and 2020, millions of people worldwide loaned UC Berkeley scientists their computers to search for signs of advanced civilizations in our galaxy.
