The #SAF also seems to have regained ground in Blue Nile state and has taken Jebel Moya. The latter had been the entry point for #RSF in #Sennar, and then Blue Nile states, from Al Jazirah. Not only has the siege of Sennar city thus been broken, but communications have been restored with SAF-held White Nile state, while the RSF in Sennar/Blue Nile are now isolated.

Earlier #SAF offensives in Khartoum (January), Al Jazirah (April) had failed to hamper further #RSF progress in #Kordofan, #Sennar and even Blue Nile. The resulting anxiety on the part of #Egypt and #Ethiopia, and transactional relations with #SouthSudan may have played a part in the early results of the newest SAF offensive.

The #RSF capture of #AlJazirah was a blow to morale, but the loss of #Sennar state is a disaster of yet another scale. Dinder is contested - although now under RSF control - and allied rebel groups might give the RSF a harder time on this new front from Al Fau to the Ethiopian border. The #SAF also made some progress in Omdurman, recapturing a neighbourhood in the West of the city recently.

In #Sennar state, the #RSF advanced unchecked to the border with #BlueNile state in Wad an-Nail. On 2 July, they took over a deserted #SAF base in Mazmoum, at the border with both Blue Nile state and #SouthSudan.
