Today I filmed a self-tape for an exciting feature thriller. It was my first time using my new portable microphones, and the difference in sound quality is remarkable. The added depth and clarity truly support the performance.

The role is psychologically complex and beautifully challenging, exactly the kind of material I love to explore. I’m happy to keep raising my standards, both technically and artistically.

The reality of commercial self-tapes

Unbelievable—yet another self-tape. There’s so much money in commercials, and advertising never seems to stop.

It used to be considered questionable for an actor’s reputation to appear in ads. Times have changed. Now it’s simply part of the business. We all have bills to pay.

And honestly, a commercial rejection is less painful. They’re not judging your talent, it’s simply about type. You fit, or you don’t, nothing personal.

The reality of last-minute self-tapes

Today a self-tape request came in. Deadline tomorrow 2 pm. This has become standard, unpaid auditions and very little time to prepare.

It’s part of the job, but it can throw your entire schedule off balance.

My advice: Deliver asap. Keep your agent updated and don’t forget: every tape is a chance to be seen by professionals, and it might be the one that gets you the job.

Just coached an #acting #coaching client on a self-tape #audition, and at one moment in a take honestly thought they were stopping and we were gonna go again, but no: they we just totally naturally doing the scene so well that I wasn't noticing they were very much doing the role as written. So nice seeing them become the character.
