I just watched Israelism and holy cow, it's really good! I grew up Jewish in Los Angeles like Simone Zimmerman, although a generation earlier. I was more on the margins of the Zionist propaganda machine, but also in Jewish summer camps as both a camper and a counselor, in AZA.

If my family hadn't been more radical, more skeptical of institutions, I could have been as sucked into it as she was. I'm thankful they left me to find my own way, thankful for the Palestinians and radical Jews I met in college who showed me how to see what was really going on, thankful for my own skepticism. She and everyone else this film is about are incredibly brave.
