This book is about getting honest and exploring how your own stories affect you… It’s about…reframing your stories so you can choose to show up differently for yourself. And it’s about getting free by integrating all parts of who you are…in order to live a truer, more whole, and more meaningful life.

A root belief is the central belief that informs how we feel about ourselves and the world. It is from this root belief that our sense of self, our stories about who we are, and our way of being in the world are formed. What grows from it looks different for each of us… Everything grows from the root: when the root is harsh or critical, flourishing is difficult. … This is why examining our stories is so critical. … From there, we get to start choosing what we water and what we let die.

…the experiences we’ve had and beliefs we’ve formed, and the narratives we’ve developed in response to those experiences and beliefs…affect us in countless ways. They affect our sense of self and our relationships. They affect the choices we make… They affect the lens through which we view the world… They affect us in so many ways we don’t even realize until we take a closer look… which is exactly why this exploration is so important.

Why Most Product Tours Get Skipped (and the One Pattern That Does Not)

Most users dismiss the first step of a product tour within seconds. Here is why that happens, what users do instead, and the one pattern that actually drives activation.

A quotation from Proust

In reality, every reader, as he reads, is actually the reader of himself. The writer’s work is only a kind of optical instrument he provides the reader so he can discern what he might never have seen in himself without this book. The reader’s recognition in himself of what the book says is the proof of the book’s truth.

Marcel Proust (1871-1922) French author

It’s Just a Toe

On January 21, I had a permanent matrixectomy on my left big toe. And for eight weeks and two days, I completely avoided posting any public pictures of that toe-- it was gross. But Friday morning, March 20, I woke up and saw when I looked at my feet that there was no 1/2 inch square scab in the bottom left hand corner as had been there the night before, when I went to sleep. So, bored on Friday afternoon, I took the above photo with my phone, and captioned it this on Facebook:"It took 1 […]

A quotation from Robert Louis Stevenson

To know what you like is the beginning of wisdom and of old age. Youth is wholly experimental. The essence and charm of that unquiet and delightful epoch is ignorance of self as well as ignorance of life. These two unknowns the young man brings together again and again, now in the airiest touch, now with a bitter hug; now with exquisite pleasure, now with cutting pain; but never with indifference, to which he is a total stranger, and never with that near kinsman of indifference, contentment.

WIST Quotations

Attended my second #quakers meeting today.
Went into a lot of deep thoughts, fluctuating between my children, society, and my place and responcibilities to myself.
Very interesting and I left feeling good and calm.

This route of exploring myseld is so different for me, but at the moment it seems to fit. Whilst not religeous I believe in good (not God, not a typo), and that we all can and should strive for it for a better happier world. I hope everyone can have a moment of calm like mine today.

Distilling into words:

Looking inwards,
I see the world mirrored
in my worries.
Is it my fault?
Do I need to do more?
What is it to be good?
And there, on a napkin,
sat on a table in my subconcious,
scrawled in my hurried hand:
Be patient,
Always seek to learn,
Be love.
