Tilburg. Home. The place where I was born, and where my children were born.

After many days that felt far too warm and far too grey for this time of year, the sun finally broke through. Blue sky appeared — almost as if the city itself was taking a deep breath. I went out for a short walk in the Spoorpark, close to home. As usual, I didn’t leave without a camera.

While walking, my attention was caught by something easily overlooked: a simple puddle. There was barely any wind, no ripples at all. From just the right angle, the puddle turned into a quiet mirror, reflecting Westpoint against a clear blue sky. A small inversion of reality — sky below, city above — reminding me how perspective can change everything.

Scientifically speaking, it’s nothing more than specular reflection: a smooth surface reflecting light at equal angles. But emotionally, it feels like something else entirely. A moment where chaos pauses, where the city aligns with itself, if only for a second. These moments are fragile — a breeze, a footstep, and they’re gone.

Photographically, this was about being present and reacting quickly. Shot handheld with the Canon 5DsR and the Sigma 24–70mm Art at 29mm, f/2.8, 1/500 sec, ISO 100. No tricks. Just observation, timing, and letting light do what it naturally does best.

Sometimes home reflects back more than you expect.

Photography, after all, is just another way of studying light and life.

When Worlds Accidentally Collide

Sometimes you see something that just makes you smile — that quiet “well, look at that…” moment. While walking through the city center of Arnhem, I noticed two entirely unrelated things that, from the right perspective, told a story together.

On the side of a building was a statue of a woman — hands in her hair, expression frozen somewhere between shock and amazement. But nearby, a street sign had clearly taken a hit and was now bent at a rather unfortunate angle. From where I stood, it looked as if she was reacting exactly to that.

Moments like this are the reward for looking twice. I took out my Canon 5D Mark IV with the Sigma 100–400, framed the scene just right, and captured that perfect visual coincidence. It’s not the kind of image that shouts — but it does make you grin when you notice the connection.

Photography, after all, isn’t always about light or motion. Sometimes it’s about timing, perspective, and the quiet humor of the world arranging itself for a fraction of a second.

Friday Creative Prompt #2: Discovering the “New”

This weekend, walk somewhere you don’t usually go. It might be one block over, the other side of the street, or a new route to the same place. Do it three times.

First, notice what’s new. Second, what you missed. Third, the smallest details.

Habit hides what’s around us. Curiosity reveals it again.

Symmterra: Guardian of the Bridge

In every reflection, a new reality emerges. “Symmterra” explores how symmetry reveals the hidden layers of our world, transforming the familiar into the mysterious. This mirrored moment of the Harbour Bridge acts as a portal—inviting fresh eyes and fresh perspective. #Symmterra #HiddenWorlds #SymmetryArt #FineArtPhotography #SydneyHarbourBridge #AbstractPhotography #ReflectionArt #SurrealSydney #KessGallery #KessMedia #SeeingDifferently #ArtOfSymmetry #elemntal

Geometry of Power – Beneath the High Voltage Lines

On the same walk where I spotted a rare beaver, I also found myself beneath something entirely different: a high voltage mast. With my Canon 7D Mark II and Canon 15–85mm lens, I explored a more industrial kind of wilderness — capturing the sharp lines, symmetry, and tension of these steel giants.

High voltage pylons carry immense electrical energy across long distances, transforming landscapes both physically and symbolically. They are the arteries of our modern world, often unnoticed until we look straight up — where triangles, steel beams, and insulators form geometric patterns against the sky.

While I was careful (never approach these in stormy or foggy conditions), I felt a strange stillness beneath them. Nature and technology collided here — the buzzing of distant wires mingled with birdsong and wind through reeds. Moments like these remind me how interconnected our world is: organic and engineered, chaotic and precise.

Hellooo! I thought you might want to have fun looking at ordinary objects around you, and making up stuff about them. It's one of the best ways to unwind and beat the bad news blues!

Here's what l've been #writing about seeing things differently:

Over the broccoli trees we go, into creeks the colour of tea…

You know what’s funny? Sighted people are so busy looking at things, they often miss the big picture. When you’re blind, the *picture* is what you create. I get to paint my world with thoughts, feelings, and a little bit of sass. 🎨✨ #MindPainter #Blind #BlindWisdom #SeeingDifferently #ThinkingDifferently
Think about it: when you don’t have visual distractions, your mind gets to wander through all the big, juicy concepts. Ever wondered about the meaning of life? I’ve got plenty of time to contemplate, darling! 🌌💫 #AbstractThinking #SeeingDifferently #ThinkingDifferently #PhilosophicalPrincess
🧠 Being blind means I live in the *Land of Abstract*. While sighted folks are busy looking at literal things, I’m over here deep-diving into the *essence* of it all. It’s like being a philosopher, but with extra flair. 😉💭 #AbstractQueen #SeeingDifferently #ThinkingDifferently
