At #SecuriTay2025 yesterday I saw some amazing kids who are WAY smarter in their 3rd or 4th year of Uni than I was at that age. Impressive stuff.

I did, however, hear at least 2 talks that spoke about #AI and #GenAI without using the word “token”. They were anthropomorphising the system and imagining capabilities that it doesn’t have. And it occurs to me that anyone who tries to explain an #LLM and what it does, but does not explain what a token is, is working from a high level mental model that is missing crucial details.
