How to Calm Your Mind — How to Be Patient
Wow. I was Instagrammed a piece of music which I found intriguing enough to do some research. I learned that Vashti Bunyan had released one record to almost no success, then did other things, and 35 years later released a sophomore longplayer, when the first one had gained some cult following.
In 1965, she released her first single “Some Things Just Stick in Your Mind” by Jagger/Richards, a little later her own song “Train Song”, but both “received little attention”, as a Wikipedia article puts it.
1970 she released the album “Just Another Diamond Day” which “struggled to find an audience” (Wikipedia).
Understandably disappointed, she left the music business to raise three children and live at the countryside of Scotland and Ireland, while in the following three decades “entirely unknown to her, the original album slowly became one of the most sought-after records of its time.” (Wiki again.)
When the new millenium started, “… Diamond Day” was re-released, and shortly after that Devendra Banhart got into contact with Vashti which put her back into the music world.
So, here’s her second album, released in 2005, on Bandcamp, a collection of very touching, tender songs with a very beautiful cover:

Oh, and the first part of the headline refers to how calming to the mind I find this album. In case you were wondering.

Heading to #rubyconf next week and was reminded of this blog post I wrote after attending for the first time in 2017 as part of the scholars program.
A huge thanks to everyone I met back then. I had no idea looking back how pivotal that conference was to my career and life going forward.
