CBC.ca: Huge spike in herring killed in B.C. salmon farm operations: DFO data

Trying to clean #sealice off #openpen farmed #salmon, #Cermaq #Canada killed a reported 817,000 wild #fish, mostly #juvenile #herring - a #keystonespecies on the #Pacific #coast.

Even #DFO staff were worried about "significant negative attention" from releasing the data.

The #Canadian govt. has still not released plans for promised 2025 transition from open pens.

Sea lice outbreak at Icelandic salmon farm worst veterinary scientists have seen. Millions of fish with lesions to be slaughtered prematurely. Pesticides not working, speculation that ability of lice to rapidly mutate is a factor. Super lice infecting wild salmon.
