One of the most amazing projects I got to be part of is finally out! We now have a unified and comprehensive framework for #seafloor #geomorphology, which will, with a bit of luck, get us all to call things the same way. A major step forwards to be able to study the #ocean's floor consistently.

#WeekendReading: Ye et al. about iron-bound organic matter under the #Seafloor in #ColdSeeps, there are some really interesting dynamics with how bioturbation seems to link into this, and it's far more than just a pairing with the sulphur cycling.

The geology of the ocean floor is truly spectacular β€” perhaps even more than land geology. Unfortunately, it's really hard to study.

What #Scientists Found When #DeepSeaMining Company Invited Them In
An #ocean #mining company funded some of most comprehensive scientific studies to date, and peer-reviewed results have begun to emerge.
Researchers from Natural History Museum in London analyzed samples from #seafloor before and after mining test and found number of worms, minute crustaceans and other animals in path of mining vehicle fell 37%. Variety of creatures declined by 32%.
