Shy Albatross (Thalassarche cauta)

This was quite a poorly lit photo originally, as the sun was setting, and the bird wasn't in direct sunlight. But the water was so smooth, and the reflections were amazing, so I made another effort at trying to salvage the photo.

Two likely Eurasian oystercatchers rest by the water in Bremerhaven, one standing watch while the other settles quietly on the quay. Their bold black-and-white plumage stands out against the soft blue water, capturing a calm moment at the harbor.

"The back-to-back barrage of storms this winter has provided little respite for seabirds that must struggle with strong winds, torrential rain and high seas, desperately hungry but apparently unable to feed. The bodies of birds washed up in wreck events are skinny and their muscles are very hard (indicated by high levels of lactate). Despite paddling hard amongst the waves, they were unable to catch enough prey to survive"
