The One Thing Startups Nail and Hollywood SUCKS At

In film, polite rejection is the norm. But unlike startups, Hollywood's culture of silence keeps filmmakers from leveling up.

On the latest #Scriptnotes podcast, John August reported being invited to (and declining) a “bake-off” to write a pilot for a TV series described as being based on a globally-known series of books that were previously adapted as films, and looking for a 10-year commitment. So what could it be? Wife and I could think of:

• Harry Potter (doesn’t it already have showrunner?)
• Hunger Games (they offhandedly said it wasn’t)
• Chronicles of Narnia
• Twilight
• Maze Runner
• Divergent
• Wizard of Oz

Meet Milo, my script consultant.

I read him the day’s script notes & he gives his instant reaction, in return for hazelnuts, or today, a raspberry.

He's a very attentive listener.

Oh noooo. I went to look up the “Rollo Temasi” quote from L.A. Confidential because of #Scriptnotes podcast, but the top 100 results are about some “manosphere” jackass who adopted the name, and now my search results are probably poisoned forever

A couple side-casts from the guys at the #Scriptnotes #Podcast on the #WGA #strike. Good info and perspectives.
