The HUMILIATION!
I'm old enough to remember when we first GOT RID of #screwworms, in the 1960s. It was, truthfully and appropriately, represented as a triumph of modern science and technology, and of American boldness and initiative. Even in the right-wing circles in which I was brought up, it was celebrated. The American conservatism of that era took pride in the use of technological power to subdue the worst aspects of nature, for the benefit of all our people.
Only later, after coming over to the Left, did I reflect on the ghastly racism and arrogant exceptionalism that had motivated our malign neglect of the continuing #screwworm problem in other nations. I have always had a morbid fascination with plagues of all kinds, and I remember thinking consciously, in the 1980s, specifically about screwworms in the context of racist exceptionalism — how abysmally foolish it was to rest content with eradicating them only in the USA. We should not have stopped until all other nations had gotten all the help they might need to solve this horrible problem, and there was not a single screwworm fly left alive in the wild anywhere in the world. It was stupid to think we could be safe with anything less.
And now, because of the sociological sewer of so-called #MAGA, we are confronted with this waking nightmare once again.
What #MAGA is doing is the very opposite of making America great.

Which is why despite Trump letting ranchers sell magot infested meats they will probably still lose tons of money because who in their right mind is going to willingly buy parasite burgers, even in this economy?

Ask yourself why would #DonaldTrump's Health and Human Services ( #HHS ) Secretary #RFKJunior still has a literal dead brain worm if they could magically get flesh eating parasites, like #Screwworms, out without surgery? Americans, & anyone still importing #USbeef after this, will be eating the maybe dead parasites they're mixing back in with healthy cows after treatment. There are no known cases of contracting #NWS from eating infected animals. It's likely just extra protein.
