The Spanish underground post-hardcore scene has never been short on intensity, but few releases this year balance rage and reflection with the precision, finesse, and sonic output Calathea demonstrates here. Flowers and Knives is a distilled experience of contrasts, fury and serenity, chaos and stability, aggression and empathy. This extended play exists in the liminal space where screamo and melodic hardcore converge, and Calathea navigates it with a confidence that contradicts their relatively recent emergence.
