In Scottish folklore, if a house goblin such as a brownie is treated with disrespect, it can transform into a "bogle." This nasty goblin will devote itself to vandalizing the house and tormenting its inhabitants with the same dedication that the brownie kept things neat and tidy.

The pech are Scottish goblins who have great strength despite their small size. An old, sick pech on his deathbed was able to shatter a metal cup by squeezing it. Along with the giants, the pech were said to be the builders of Scotland's ancient stone megaliths.

The Sluagh (the "Host") of Irish and Scottish folklore are sometimes depicted as ghosts, sometimes as fairies. They fly through the sky like a flock of birds, and carry off anyone they find. Some of their victims are left on a remote island, others are never seen again.

A killmoulis is a goblin in Anglo-Scottish folklore who haunts mills. He has a giant nose but no mouth, and so inhales food through his nostrils. Though the killmoulis plays pranks and steals the miller's food, he pays the miller back by working hard in the mill.

One of the most hideous sea monsters is the Scottish nuckelavee, a fairy that resembles a skinless horse fused with a skinless rider. The nuckelavee hates fresh water; ironically, a river or lake is the safest place from this aquatic creature when it comes on land.
