As biomech advanced the usage ethics turned to a near zero response. It was doubleplus inexpensive in terms of labour, resources, and production time to use a human brain with its already developed support system. To use chiptech cost more.
Foetal data collection was used extensively near the front lines. Easily cobbled together from warscrap a unit could be plus hidden near, or even behind lines, to collect a vast arraywise amount of data.
This unit was discovered nearly 7 decades post Conflict, dutywise collecting data with no uplink to receive the stream.

Syncasters were doubleplus insidious. Appearing in the last decade of the Conflict, these biomech passive attack entities would render several km square effectively dead.
Dropped into a populated area these units used recently dead gray matter as a neural brown noise weapson. Amplifying and broadcasting the full spectrum of the reactivated brain's misfired synapses into the attack zone. Within days any higher functioning mammal would be reduced to a dysfunctional zombie ready to be invaded and wiped out. This gave the attacker an area plus ripe in resources they desperately needed.
