I am a geophysicist. My first scientific citation was in an obscure Japanese book about Baobab trees (no existing tranlations). I do not speak or read Japanese, nor do I know anything notable about baobab trees.

My second scientific citation was in a commonly-used intro textbook in my field.

Neither of these is particularly related to anything else i have done.
