COX7RP wspiera tworzenie tzw. superkompleksów w mitochondriach, co poprawia efektywność produkcji energii i zmniejsza ryzyko chorób związanych z wiekiem. Myszy z dodatkowym COX7RP wykazywały lepszy metabolizm, mniej oznak zapalenia i dłuższy okres zdrowego życia. Wyniki sugerują, że manipulacja tym białkiem może stać się kluczem do przyszłych terapii przeciwstarzeniowych.
