#BorderControls on 3500+ km are unfeasible, would miss the target of preventing suspected terrorists coming to Germany, violate #SchengenAgreement , create unprecedented congestion and likely won't stop people from migrating but provocing new routes. Furthermore, a central European country, with mostly internal borders to nine neighbours should as a minimum discuss border issues with those neighbours instead of going solo. (mho)

It comes as a bitter realization that a lot of hard-fought-for progress can be wiped off the slate easily under the wrong circumstances.
Implementing right-wing policies like border controls does not make them any less right-wing by being implemented by a German left-to-center coalition trying to appeal to right-wing voters due to domestic power plays.

Schengen, a village in southern Luxembourg on the river Moselle, located where the territories of the initial contracting parties of the Schengen Agreement (France, Germany and the Benelux States) meet, has become a synonym for the abolition of internal border controls and for free movement in Europe.
