The #Energy #Climate & #Environment program at #IIASAVienna had its quarterly meeting last Friday (~100 researchers), so I had to reflect on our role as community data hub and what to present on behalf of the #ScenarioServices & #ScientificSoftware team.

We developed a new #ScenarioExplorer front-end last year, and we made a lot of progress with our #opensource packages for scenario analysis, validation & data-management.

Step by step towards #OpenScience and reusable, reproducible analysis...

How can Europe πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Ί reach #ClimateNeutrality?

The #Horizon2020 project #ECEMF develops a full-scale model comparison exercise to produce a coherent evidence-base for #energy & #climate policy impact assessment.

The scenarios are accessible under a #CreativeCommons CC-BY license, hosted by the #IIASAVienna #ScenarioServices team.

Working with #NUTS administrative EU πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Ί regions is one of the little nuisances in #energysystems modelling and scenario analysis.

So the #IIASA #ScenarioServices team put together a little #opensource #python utility package so that modelers can focus on #freethemodels and don’t have to spend too much time on data-wrangling…

Welcome! You are invited to join a webinar: ICONICS webinar on the SSP Extensions Explorer. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email about joining the webinar.

As part of the ICONICS webinar series, we will launch the new SSP Extensions Explorer! Researchers at IIASA have been working on a new tool that gathers more than a dozen quantitative extensions to the SSP framework, which have emerged in the literature since the publication of the original set of drivers. This collection now spans a broad range of socio-economic indicators, from extreme poverty to gender equality. The new tool aims to create a user- and model-friendly interface that is meant to be a one-stop shop for accessing the SSP extensions and a platform that facilitates a conversation on the next generation of scenarios. We hope to use this opportunity to collect first feedback from the community, learn about the datasets we might have missed and discuss further development.

To review the (draft) update of national #SSP projections for #GDP and #population, you can...

1. View the data via our interactive #ScenarioExplorer hosted by the #IIASA #ScenarioServices team
2. Download the full dataset as xlsx
3. Access the data via our #Python or #Rstats API

And with our #opensource package #pyam_iamc, it's as easy as the snippet below...
... to get something that's just like a #pandas #DataFrame - but better!

The πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Ί Scientific Advisory Board on #ClimateChange recommends a reduction of 90-95% of GHG emissions until 2040.

The assessment is partly based on an ensemble of quantitative, model-based pathways, compiled by colleagues at #IIASA & #PIK and released via a #ScenarioExplorer hosted by the #ScenarioServices team to facilitate transparency and reuse.
